John 3:16 in the hand of an ancient scribe, from one of the oldest and most complete surviving manuscripts of the Gospel of John, on real Egyptian papyrus.
About This Manuscript
Papyrus 66 (P66), also known as Bodmer Papyrus II, is one of the earliest and most substantial surviving biblical manuscripts of the Gospel of John. Dated to the third or fourth century AD, this Greek papyrus codex preserves large portions of John's Gospel in remarkable condition. This museum-quality P66 replica features John 3:7-14 on the recto and John 3:14-20 on the verso, including John 3:16, the most recognized verse in the Bible, preserved in the hand of an ancient Christian scribe on real Egyptian papyrus. Owning this replica means holding the context of John 3:16 as the early Church read it: the lifting up of the Son of Man, the promise of eternal life, and the contrast between light and darkness.
Textual Significance
P66 is among the most textually significant papyri in all of New Testament scholarship. Notably, P66 contains no trace of the Pericope Adulterae (John 7:53-8:11), a detail of ongoing significance for students of biblical textual criticism and apologetics. Its nomina sacra conventions reflect the well-established scribal practices of early Christian communities.
About This Replica
This museum-quality John 3:16 papyrus replica is produced through an intensive, multi-week hand-crafted replication process on real Egyptian papyrus. Careful attention is given to manuscript scale, line spacing, Greek letterforms, layout, and nomina sacra conventions.
